South of England Road Relays Aldershot - 28 September 2003

Havering Mayesbrook's hopes for a good start to the Winter campaign after some very good middle distance performances on the track this summer did not materialise due to injuries and withdrawals but nevertheless there were good individual performances. In the girls events hosts Aldershot were once again in dominant form

U13 Boys:

Steve MacLachlan found it tough going on the first lap but held on well to bring the team home in 9th (10m 56s) and handed over to the in-form Grant Twist. Grant wasted no time in moving through the field and was still overtaking in the finishing 3rd in 10m 43s for the 6th fastest time of the day! Joe Webster gallantly tried to shrug off a knee injury, but dropped two places to finish in 5th (11m 48s). Matt Bloy attempted to catch up the leaders but was only able to move up to 4th place and just missed out on the medals (11m 05s).

The B team ran very well to finish in 16th, with Simon Brown coming home in 18th on the 1st leg (11m 40s), newcomer Ben Warden ran well to move up to 12th (11m 27s), another newcomer Daniel Winters moved up one place (11m 56s) and Steve Payne brought the team home on lap 4 (12m 56s).

U15 Boys:

Ashley Reece led the team on lap 1 having a super run just losing in the finishing straight to the powerful Jordan West of Cornwall (English Schools 800m Champion and fastest ever at that distance) in the fourth fastest lap of the day (9m 38s). Ross Clarke wasted no time moving into the lead running the 8th fastest lap (9m 57s) to hand over to Chris MacLachlan running his first race at this level. Chris fought hard to keep the lead but was overhauled near the finish to bring the team home in 4th (11m 06s). Craig Moore - who is more used to throwing the discus - had stepped in at the last minute due to withdrawals and had a tough time but kept going to bring the team home in 24th place (14m 19s).

U13 Girls

Michaela Roberts tackled the first leg, she ran well and dug in hard to bring the team home in 9th with a time of 8.52 she passed on to Louisa Woods who had a run of her life to bring the team home in 14th in a time of 9.48. Ingrid Deane took on the last leg, she ran hard to pass four athletes bringing the team home in 10th overall with a time of 8.46. Both Ingrid and Michaela made it in to the top 20 fastest individuals Ingrid in 13th and Michaela in 19th.

The U13 B Team of Catrina McAuliffe (10.30),  Ciara Gillespie (10.22) and Rachael Kerr in her first race for the club brought the team home in 49th overall with a time of 10.20.

U15 Girls

Katie Richardson started the A team's race off digging in hard and running well Katie passed on to Amie Adams in 4th place with a time of 10.59. Amie kept up a good pace all around the course passing on to Lauren Clark in 7th place in a time of 12.10. Lauren battled hard and came home in a time of 11.54 with the team finishing 6th overall. Katie made it in to the top 20 fastest time in 5th place.

The U15 B team of Claire Robinson (12.10); Hayley Thomas (12.25) and  Lauren McVicar (13:06) came home in a overall 26th. Rachael Newman (13:15) and Charlotte Humphreys (13:24) made up an incomplete C team

U17 A Team
Robyn Matson run well bringing the team in 16th place with a time of 12.01. Natalie Adams who came in to the team at the last minute to cover run the fastest out of all three girls making up 7 places running a time of 11.42 and bringing the team home in 9th. Taken on the last leg was Helen Roche running well with a time of 12.28 and bringing the team in a overall 12th.

The U17 B Team of Laura Moore (12.54), Caroline Smith (12:33) and Jennifer Szantai (13:57) placed 22nd.
