The
u17 girls' trio of Robyn Matson, Megan Foley and Katie Richardson started the
winter season in style when they struck silver in the South of England Road
Relays on Sunday.
After
Robyn's solid opener in 11th of the 46 starters in 11m 23s, Megan
overhauled nine teams to come home second to put the team in medal contention
with a sparkling 10:53 run, for seventh fastest leg overall. Katie's brilliant
anchor leg of 10:22 was the fastest on the stage and was only bettered on the
day by Woodford rival Jessica Sparke’s opener which was just one second faster
in 10:21. But
Katie’s effort was not enough to close down winners Aldershot who came home
winners by 19 seconds.
There
was a great performance from the u15
girls' squad of Clare
Robinson (11:41), Hayley Thomas (11:36) and Ingrid Deane (11:51) who finished
9th, with the B team of Michaela Roberts (11:54), Rachel Newman (12:33) and
Charlotte Humphreys (12:05) in 17th.
The
boys' u15
quartet – who were the U13 National runner's up last winter – found the
going tough when they stepped up an age group, but still gave a good account of
themselves. Matt
Bloy (10:09), Steve McLachlan (10:28), Joe Webster (11:04) and Grant Twist
(10:44) came 13th.
The U13
boys found the going tough when their leading performer Simon
Brown, suffering with a knee problem, could only finish 24th after a first lap
timed in 11:38. There were good legs from twins Daniel (11:20) and Thomas
Shanney (11:33) before newcomer Luke Jones (12:43) brought the team home in a
creditable 17th
On Saturday
in the 6-stage relay the senior men
were 46th with Gavin Maley (20:17) and Jason Lendon (20:28) fastest. Russ
Middleton (21:55), Rob Warner (21:01), Graham Pritchard (21:55) and Chris Coates
(23:14) completed the team
