SOUTHERN MEN'S LEAGUE DIVISION 3, HORSHAM 8 JULY 2000
Despite a depleted team it was good to see the old team spirit that has been missing this season, return and enable us to achieve third place. The match had been very close all afternoon with no more than 6 points separating 2nd to 5th places throughout the day with only four points separating the clubs going into the 4x400m relay with Havering Mayesbrook in 4th place. Against the odds the team of Sanjay Sahota, Kevin Benton, Jo Crane and Phil Hardy produced a terrific performance to clinch third place in the match by half a point.
Earlier we had started the day with Keith Robinson winning the hammer with a throw of 40.51m, and Kevin Deacon gaining 2nd place in the B with a PB of 33.64m. Kevin Benton on his return from University won the 110m hurdles and was second in the 400m Hurdles, Garry Howard ran a great 5000m only to be pipped on the line and was well supported with Tony Collins winning the B race. Robert Warner won the 3000m s/chase with Paul Berret winning the 1500m B race. Although overall there were not many outright winners the day was about performing for the team and no one demonstrated this more than Clive Gray who came along to support the team and ended up winning valuable points in the pole vault, high jump, javelin and 110m hurdles. Well done everyone!
