SOUTHERN LEAGUE MEN STRUGGLE AT NORWICH
Men's Southern League Division 3, Norwich 2 June 2001
Despite fielding a much
stronger team than in their first round fixture
Havering Mayesbrook AC senior men’s team struggled against top of the table
opposition in
their second Southern Men’s Division 3 match at Norwich on Saturday.
| Kevin
Benton (pictured right) stepped down from the British League to
record a hurdles double, battling against near gale force winds in the
one-lap event to come home three seconds ahead, and then returned to take advantage
of the following wind to win the sprint hurdles. In a busy afternoon
he also ran his fastest ever 100m, and scored pole vault points before
anchoring both 4x100m and 4x400m relay squads.
Rob Warner, with B string 400m hurdles victory, and under-17 high jumper Steve Prady, were the only two other team members to claim victories on an afternoon when points were hard to come by. |
|
Andy Green ran well into runners up spots in both 100m, a new fastest time, and 200m, as well as running in the sprint relay. Two other second places came in the throwing events went to Kevin Deacon, A Hammer and veteran Steve Archer in the shot.
The strength of the opposition was such that results which had gained victories in the first round placed last this time. Hopefully, similar results in the third fixture at Sutton in three weeks (23rd June) will gain a better placing.
