FIELD EVENTS SHOW THE WAY AS SOUTHERN MEN PLACE THIRD
Men's Southern League Division 3, Thurrock 4 August 2001
Havering Mayesbrook AC’s Southern Men’s team
performed creditably in their final league match at Thurrock on Saturday and a
third place finish was enough to guarantee safety for another season. In
a close fought match, the home club took the honours with 142pts followed by
Cambridge with 122pts with Havering Mayesbrook just six points away on 116pts
ahead of Diss and London Irish.
HMAC’s
field athletes were in fine form with Brett Heath and Steve Archer leading the
way,
There
was another ‘A’ and ‘B’ string double success in the High Jump through
Steven Prady and Mark Connelly, both recruited from the under-17 ranks. Prady
also took third place in the Long Jump with Heath winning the ‘B’ event.
On
the track, Kevin Benton maintained his good form, equalling his personal best in
taking the 400m Hurdles with Jason Lendon winning the ‘B’ event. Benton also
finished second in the sprint hurdles, as did Heath in the ‘B’ event. There
were also good points earned by Neil Collins and Martin Chester (1500m) and
Lendon and Rob Warner (3000m Steeplechase).
