Men’s
Southern League, Milton Keynes Saturday 13th July 2002
A
short-handed Men’s Southern League team finished last of five in their
Division 3 fixture at Milton Keynes on Saturday as League leaders Victoria park
& Tower hamlets, and strong hosts Milton Keynes took the spoils.
There
were however a few highlights to lighten the gloom. Sam Harrison was a double
winner winning his javelin speciality after hurling the hammer to take B-string
victory points.
Hammer partner Kevin Deacon took second in the A competition.
Father
and son pairing Stuart and Kevin Tufton scored good pole vault points.
Kevin vaulted 3.80m for runners-up spot while veteran former
international Stuart was B string victor.
The
youngest team member 16-year old Mark Connelly high jumped 1.80m to win the
event.
On
the track Rob Warner took the limelight as he recorded a new PB in placing
second in the steeplechase, and also set a new best in the 800m. Neil Collins
also set a new personal best in the 400m.
With
one more fixture left, when the club host a “home” match at Woodford on 3
August, the team are again hovering just above the relegation zone but should
have done enough in the earlier fixtures to avoid the drop.
