Havering
Mayesbrook Men’s Southern League team have lost their Division 3 place after
placing fourth in the final fixture at Woodford on Saturday.
Team
manager Peter Estcourt initially thought that the team had placed 20th in the 25
team division and that the team’s fate rested on the fortunes of the club's
British League team at Rugby in three weeks (31 August) which could doom them to
relegation from British League Division 4 back into the Southern League Division
One, with a ripple effect down the divisions to make way, causing the Southern
League team to drop a flight into Division 4.
However, the weekend’s results had gone against the team and on
Monday came the bad news of the team’s relegation to Division 4 for the 2003
season, after avoiding the drop for the last few years.
Good field events performances were the order of the day. Multi-eventer Brett Heath provided a welcome boost with a B javelin win and runners up spot in the shot and discus. There were good hammer points as Kevin Deacon took A string second and fit-again Danny Gamester went one better with a B string victory. Deacon was also third in the B shot while Sam Harrison was second in the javelin & fourth in the B hammer.
Mark Gardiner showed his injuries are behind him with a long jump runners up spot and added a pair of third placings in the triple jump and 100m. High jumper Mark Connelly also claimed second place points in his speciality.
On the track the highlights came from Rob Warner who again improved his steeplechase PB for second, and was also runners up in the 400m hurdles. The 5000m also provided good points as Tony Collins and veteran Gary Howard both bagged second placings.
