Strong field events performances backed up by solid track results ensured an unexpected victory for a jubilant Men's Southern League Div 3 team at Hendon on Saturday.

Arron Bonning helped himself to a hat trick of victories in 110h, long jump & pole vault, Kevin Deacon & Lee Arrowsmith made it a hammer double, the latter in a new PB and each added victories in the B shot and B high jump respectively. Stalwart Darron Keevil tackled three events, winning the B discus and placing second in both shot & javelin.

Veteran Ian Chamberlain - recently awarded life membership - dusted down his spikes to win B pole vault, 110 hurdles & 400m hurdles, while fellow vet Paul Berrett was also busy in four events, winning the 400m hurdles A.

Martin Chester gallantly competed in all four middle distance events, placing second in the steeplechase. Junior Danny Nunn and newcomer James Harris scored well in the sprints. The win went some way to erasing the last place finish in round and raises hopes that the annual struggle to avoid the drop may not materialise.
