The Southern Men’s League Division 1 team gained their third consecutive runners-up spot in their third round fixture at Ashford on Saturday

On the track Rob Warner made the headlines with his steeplechase winning PB, moving him up to 14th on the club’s all time rankings. Martin Chester made it a win double, taking B string honours. Salvator Mutijima was close to his week-old PB in winning the B 400m but made no mistake in the 800m where he set a career best for third. Another track PB came from James Murphy who again reduced his 400m hurdles best, and went close to his 400m flat time.

Anthony Williams, still 17, tackled the senior high hurdles for the first time and his debut time of 16.6s was faster than that by veteran skipper Mark Bishop in the A string, and took him straight into the club’s all-time senior top 20 and junior top 10. Williams had a good day, winning the B long jump and improving his PB in the triple jump. Bishop himself won the B discus and contested the pole vault and B shot (both 2nd), B high jump & hammer (both 3rd), 200m B (5th) plus both relays.

Another 40 year old, Matt Bland, ran a fast 2:04.4 in the 800m, second fastest ever by a club vet, while oldest team member Stuart Tufton showed age is no barriers with B pole vault win.

There was the by now customary full-pointer from the javelin where Bonne Buwembo teamed up with U17 Georgie Bean for an A & B double. Leo Barker added valuable field points in shot, discus & high jump, Danny Gamester was second in the hammer,  and Vince Lazaro was third in long jump, second in B triple jump and ran both sprints and the relay.

Completing the line up were the middle distance squad of Jason Lendon & Gavin Maley (1500m – 4th & 3rd), and 5k duo, both Grahams Pritchard (4th A) and Hogan (3rd B) plus Phil Tierney’s 400m hurdles placing.
