A depleted senior men’s team battled well to place fourth in their rain-affected Southern League Division One fixture at Woking on Saturday. 

This was always going to be a difficult fixture with the heart of the team – including club President & skipper Mark Bishop, at team-mate Scott Spencer’s wedding, with other athletes missing due to work or other commitments – Bonne Buwembo was in national Championships action accompanied by his coach Sam Harrison.

But the team contributed eight victories and were still in a close contest going into the relays. The middle distance events produced the best points tally as there were winning doubles for Trevor Keys & Ian Anthony (5000m) and Rob Warner & Keys again in the ‘chase. It was Warner’s second victory having earlier won the B 800m and another B middle distance win came from Jason Lendon in the 1500m.

Juniors Anthony Williams and Vince Lazaro each contributed a win in the 1110m hurdles and B long jump respectively and runners up points were earned by Glen Hill (800m), the pole vault pairing of Stuart Tufton & busy Arron Bonning, who also added a javelin B second place. Danny Gamester was another runner up in the hammer.
