Despite absentees through injury and holidays the Southern Men's League squad narrowly held off highly placed hosts Cambridge Harriers to end the season with a win lifting us to seventh in the table. The squad's promotion play-off chances were boosted by marked improvements in the shot and discus together with season bests in the 400m hurdles.

There was a personal bests on his senior debut for U17 Emmanuel  Quarshie with 11.84m in the shot. Rob Warner again improved his 3000m steeplechase best to 9.32.6 and added an 800m PB of 2.04.4.  Bradley Reece improved his hammer distance to 40.08m and threw further than before in the senior discus with 33.63m.

It was also good to see Brett Heath returning to club action for the first time for many years with impressive throws of 38.43m in the discus and 11.79m in the shot. Sam Harrison and U17 Bradley Burr won both javelin strings and both won B events – Harrison the hammer & Burr the pole vault.

Joe Ramie won four individual events with A wins in 200m, ling jump & triple jump plus 100m B success.  Anthony Williams shrugged of injury to win the B long jump. Mark Bishop ran the fastest by a club senior this year in the 400m hurdles for second and James Murphy returned to action to win the B. Arron Bonning added two second places in the pole vault & B 110m hurdles and U17 Gabriel Makinwa was second in the B triple jump  on his senior debut.

The sprint relay team of Charlie Moss, Scott Spencer, James Murphy & Joseph Ramie posted an impressive 44.1s clocking for victory.

The team will now have to keep their fingers crossed and wait to see if they have made the play-off – based on a “paper match” on best results through the league season.

Bonne Buwembo yet again improved his club U20 and senior javelin record on Saturday. He added almost half a metre to his best mark to throw 69.07m representing Enfield & Haringey in the British League Premiership, beating two 74m throwers.
