A six strong Southern Men's Div 3 team almost held of a full-strength Barnet/Trent Park squad for second place, in their opening match at Hemel on Saturday.
They fought from the first event with a never say die attitude they should be proud of and only missed four events of a full programme. Their efforts almost paid off as with only three events they were in joint second place.
There was Stuart Tufton doing his consistent best in the pole vault, Neill Collins ran excellent tactical races to get the team as many points possible, Tom Foskett ran with a maturity beyond his years doing the 400m then coping well in the next race the 200m, and doing both relays,
Martin Chester showed his bulldog spirit by warming up with a tactical 800m before his 5000m, 1500m, and 3000m steeple which he finished only to changed his wet spikes before doing a leg of the 4x400.
That left Darren Keevil and Aaron Bonning who only competed in 22 events between them, there is not enough superlatives to give them credit - but the highlight was a double victory in the high hurdles.
Full marks for effort lads.
