The Men's Southern League team ,
hit by late withdrawals and injuries, were outgunned by two two
teams Aylesbury and Bedford in their Div 3N match at Hemel Hempstead
on Saturday.
But on a wet & windy day the team rallied well and helped each other cover as many of the events as possible, and were rewarded by a clutch of PBs.
The two strong men Darron (Keevil) and Arron (Bonning) once again
contested ten events scoring a massive 25 points for the team.
However they had company with Christian Newton in the Discus who
paired up with a welcome return by Kevin Deacon to score our only
A&B win in the Hammer.
Kieron Nelson had a good days competition in the 110m & 400m
Hurdles, whilst his brother Jake contested the Pole Vault, High &
Long jumps before joining his brother in the 4x100m relay.
Chris Smith ran the longest race of the day the 5000m and finished a
creditable third. Traffic delays caused Ian Anthony to miss the 5000
but acquitted himself well in the shorter 1500.
After the last match Simon Richards was looking for a fast 400m
but despite hamstring problems managed to finish 2nd in the B.
Ian Price decided to put on his sprint shoes doing a 100m
then running a 1500m Neil Collins had a solid run in the 800m then
joined Ian Price, Massi Dendani and Anthony for the 4x400.
Anthony Soar did a workmanlike 800m before filling in for the
injured to run a swift 200m. Nathan Steele was rewarded with PBs in
his 100m and Triple jump. Dere Coker made a huge improvement on his
Long Jump best with 6m 30 PB before joining Nathan, Jake & Kieron in
the 4x100
Massi Dendani made his debut for the Southern team with a PBs in the
400m and 200m .
