A dozen wins from the u15 & u17 contingent boosted the Southern Women's team to second place, their best position this season in the fifth round fixture in heatwave conditions at Crawley on Saturday.
World Junior international Lucy Sargent took on senior opposition and claimed a 100m/Long Jump double for the club's only senior category wins. Her 11.8s 100m equalled her best and she leapt to a comfortable long jump win.
Lisa Schofield had a double victory in the u17 hurdles events. She cruised to victory in the 80m event after improving her 300m hurdles PB for the second time in six days, clocking a new best of 47.1s for fourth on the club all-time list. Lisa also competed in the senior discus and sprint relay
In the u15 age group Frankie Calder recorded a sprint double, taking the 100m in a fast 12.7s and clocking an easy 26.7s to win the half-lap sprint. Lauren Newton also doubled up with wins in both the discus A (21.85m) and javelin B successes, the latter in a new PB of 18.70m. U15 Track wins were added by Charlotte Humphreys (800m A) and Michaela Roberts (1500m B) while Bethan Siddons (A high jump) and Nicola Hill (B discus) completed the victory roll. Frankie Calder showed her all-round ability with a new javelin PB and Lilla Jacks (100m) and Catrina McAuliffe (high jump) set new personal marks.
For the seniors several familiar faces toiled in the torrid conditions to cover the gaps, earning vital points to keep the club in the hunt in a close five-way fight. Laurie Cossey racked up four events and two relays, while unsung hero Sue Deboos tackled four events equalling her pole vault PB for 2nd. In similar fashion Nina Brennan went one better with four individual efforts and a 400m relay leg, while her older sister Claire competed in three events & the sprint relay, as did Hannah Gamester.
After slipping towards the drop zone after the two most recent last place finishes the spirited team performance should do much to secure the club's position in Division 1, with one meeting to go.
