The Southern Women strengthened their claims for promotion when they emerged victorious in the third Southern League Div 2 fixture at Haringey today. After contesting the lead with Kingston for most of the match they eased clear in the closing stages to record an emphatic win.
The Senior Women recorded 11 individual victories and won both relays. Kate Brewington headed the cast with a field events win treble, earning maximum points in the shot, high jump and long jump, as well as finishing runner up in the 200m and contributing a leg to the winning sprint relay team.
Emma Christmas was a double winner, adding almost metre to her week-old javelin PB and moving within 23 cms of Kate Brewington's U20 club record. Emma also improved her 200m best for B string success.
Sarah Deacon and the returning Katie O'Sullivan both collected win doubles. Sarah showed improved form in the hammer, won the B javelin, and was runner up in both the discus-A and shot B. Katie returned to Southern League action after a two-year lay off to win B 100m hurdles and high jump events, and notched up additional points in the pole vault, 400m hurdles and hammer.
There were track doubles as Laurie Cossey & Robyn Delivett cleaned up in the 400m A&B, as did Lauren Clark and Lesley Felton in the 800m races. Delivett, Clark and Felton were joined by Laura Moore to produce a winning finale in the last event the 4x400m relay. Moore had earlier enjoyed a successful day with PBs in all her three events, the 100m, 1500m and long jump.
A PB was also gained by Denise Harris in the 1500m, while u17 Lisa Schofield equalled her 100m PB against older opposition, before cantering to an easy 80m hurdles win in her own age group.
Another hurdles victory came the way of Claire Brennan, who held of a strong challenge to clock a season's best in wining the senior 100m hurdles. Claire later teamed up with Lisa Schofield, Kate Brewington and Laurie Cossey in a victorious sprint relay quartet.
Completing the points tally were Carmel Munson (400m hurdles, Ruth O'Sullivan and Nikki Barnett.
The u15s again had several unfilled spots but did their bit for the cause with were five victories. Three of these successes came from Catrina McAuliffe who contributed B string wins, taking the honours in the shot, hurdles (PB) and high jump. All-rounder Nicola Hill sped to a new 75m hurdles lifetime best in winning the event and also set a new shot PB while Southern champion Bethan Siddons leapt to first place points in her speciality high jump event.
Carla Schofield, Jade Atkinson, Lilla Jacks and Georgia Davies completed the team.
