The Southern Women's League team recorded their third runners up spot of the season behind hosts Enfield & Haringey at sweltering Lee Valley on Saturday.

There were thirteen victories, eight A and five B and many personal  and seasons bests. But it was the gaps in five B string events that badly affected the final points tally.

Middle distance success came from Vicky Smith, back from university for the summer, who won both 800m and 3000m. Training partners Ingrid Deane and Gemma Phillips claimed maximum point in the 1500m.

Claire Brennan set a season's best in winning the sprint hurdles and contributed. Holly Thomas made her senior debut with a good points tally in 100, 200m and long jump, and relay and was rewarded with a 200m PB.  

There were maximum points in seven of the eight throwing events. Mel Harrison led the way with a shot-hammer-discus triple win, and the versatile Zoe Young's PB took the B shot and Lauren Clark added a discus B string wins. Emma Christmas & Kike Oniwinde took the A & B javelin honours.

Karen Baldwin & Leanne Blayney were both in fine form clearing new career bests for pole vault for second and first places and Karen showed there's more to come as she went even higher with a 2.90m clearance after the competition ended.

Nina Brennan scored in both 200m & 400m and ran the fastest 400m relay leg.

The team are third in the table with a trip to Milton Keynes to come in four weeks.
