South of England Cross Country Championships, Parliament Hill 25 January 2020

Kate O'Neill's individual silver brightened up a damp day at the South of England Championships were held on the sticky mud of the ever-challenging Parliament Hill course.

Kate's runner up spot in the Under 20 Women's race behind National Champion and fellow Birmingham student & Great Britain international Amelia Quirk was Kate's best ever finish in these championships and confirms her fine recent form, ahead of the major national races to come this winter.

The Under 13 Boys were the highest placed club squad in 13th. Ryan Carroll was 46th of the 300+ starters, and Oliver Taylor-Bush (70th), Daniel Lammas (87th) and Jack West (132nd) completed the scoring four with Joseph Gary 175th and Lochlan Dyer 220th.

The Senior Women were a creditable 18th of the 70th complete teams. Morgan Campbell (61st) and Ginte Bailey (84th) were in the top 100 of the near-700 finishers and Bella Woods and Robyn Matson were in the top 200 to complete the scorers as Clare Davies in 245th and Clare Rudgley (546th) also rose to the challenge.

Matthew Blacklock was the first home for the 23rd placed Under 15 Boys in 82nd. Owen Fisher (161st), Dan Peters (180th) and Max Robbins (201st) were the scorers with Finley Wolton 278th and Archie Winney (306th).

The Under 13 Girl were 27th as Charlotte Evans made the top hundred with Ruby Tillson 148th and not much between Rosie Warner, Lucy Bacon and Hannah Evans in the 170s.

Rob Warner ran well in 72nd place in a  field of over twelve hundred starters to lead the senior men home to 43rd in the team stakes.  Ben Davis, in his first nine mile (15km) race did well in 157th followed by Barry Smith with another strong run to take 266th.  Rob Trevor in 486th, Steve Walker 666th and Gary Atkins 736th did well in the churned up mud conditions to complete the scoring team. Roy James made the top one thousand in 905th and Tony Collins completed the squad in 1158th .

There were incomplete teams in the other age groups. Sam Atkins put in a good run in 51st to finish in the top half of the Under 20 men's field. Maddie Barker and Till Canty were 50th and 55th out of over 300 in the Under 15 Girls race, Alex Ford 136th for the Under 17 men and Rebecca O'Rourke and Jessica James 147th & 149th for the Under 17 Women.
