South of England Under 20 & Under 15 Inter Counties,

Abingdon, 28th August 2005

Eight club members pulled on the red vests of Essex on Sunday when they took part in the Southern Inter Counties event for the under 20 & under 15 age groups.

Luke Stott twice ran faster than before in the under 20 Men’s 200m.  Just eight days after setting a new PB of 22.3s for the event he trimmed this to 22.17s in placing second in his heat and reduced the mark further with his 20.09s clocking. But as both times were aided by a strong following wind they will not count in the rankings.

Three of the club’s under 20 members were in action for the Essex women’s team and all performed with credit, helping the team to victory.  Chloe van Wulven tackled both hurdles events and was fourth in the 400m event and third in her sprint hurdles speciality.  Lynsey Clark was also third in the discus and Hayley Stibbs placed fourth in the 800m.

Three under 15 girls contributed to the team’s victory in that age group.  Frankie Calder powered to third place in the 200m event, setting a season’s best of 26.06s in the bargain, but again it was wind aided.  Nicola Hill found the wind more of a hindrance in the 75m hurdles as it pushed her close to the barriers but she responded well with a fast 11.50s for fourth place.  Bethan Siddons was one of six athletes clear at 1.55m as Cornwall’s Sarah Williamson won the contest with her 1.60m clearance.

Completing the club contingent was Brad Reece who was close to his PB in the discus, placing seventh.
