Two jumps wins by Kate Cowley were the icing on the cake for a fine team performance as the UK Women's team finished equal second in their round two fixture at Eton on Saturday - probably the best placing by a club senior team nationally. Cowley's long & high jump victories were supported by B string wins in the same events by Kirsty Smith & Sara Luck respectively. Harriet Scott's 3000m PB earned her second in a good quality race and B string runners up spots went to the middle distance trio of Sara Luck (800m), Hayley Stibbs (1500m PB) and Robyn Matson (3000m PB). Emma Christmas and Mel Harrison (shot) were second in the B javelin & shot. and A string third places went to Harrison again in the discus and Louise Mathews (javelin). Lauren Deadman bagged a pair of A third places with her 800m/1500m double, and Lisa Schofield added a 100m hurdles B string third place. Kirsty Smith, nursing a sore knee, improved her 100m PB, as did hard working Claire Brennan set a 200m PB and was close to her 100m & hurdles best, and Laura Bealey again improved her 400m hurdles PB. Birthday girl Hannah Gamester contributed valuable points in 200m, hammer & vault. After holding second position for much of the match the final result for the minor placings behind winning hosts Windsor rested on the 4x400m relay and the club quartet of Scott, Stibbs, Bealey & Cowley did enough for the team to place fifth and equal second in the team stakes.
