Seventh place at Liverpool on Sunday leaves the UK Women's League team facing a battle for survival for their Division Two place. A long list of unavailable athletes and late withdrawals left the dozen valiant members who made the journey north with their work cut out to cover the programme.

Faye Fullerton sharpened up for this weekend's Olympic Trials with a front-running victory in the 800m, for the only club A string win. Just 40 minutes later she was sixth in a quality field of 400m specialists and she bought the meeting to a close by anchoring the 4x400m relay holding onto seventh place under a strong challenge.

Nicola Hill provided the only other track A string top-three placing. She returned to form after her recent virus to finish third in the 400m hurdles. Lauren Deadman was a fraction outside her 800m PB when taking third place in the B race and she was later fourth in the 1500m A event.  They were her first races in club teams this season after an enforced lay-off due to sore shins. She had returned to racing a few days earlier when she improved her 3000m best at the Watford Open.

Mel Harrison was as usual the top points scorer on the field. She was runner up in the shot, third in the discus and fifth in the hammer - the latter two improvements on her round one positions.

Kate Cowley contributed two third places in the A high jump and B shot and added a pole vault PB.  Hannah Gamester dashed between the B hammer & Pole vault and was rewarded with runners up in the vault and sixth in the throw.

Chelmsford's Jess Tappin won the B high jump and added hurdles and long jump points, as well as competing in both relays.  Emma Christmas was third in the javelin and scored in the B 100m too. Another third place went to Nina Brennan in the discus and she added 200m points and later ran her fastest 400m split.

Laura Bealey travelled across from her Sheffield base to run in the both the 400m events - hurdles (4th) and flat (6th) and for good measure ran the opening 400m relay leg.

Veteran Cathy Matthews earned everyone's respect with her 1500m PB after long jump and triple jump, and Claire Brennan battled against headwinds in the 100m hurdles and both sprints for precious points, her best being fifth in the B hurdles.

Despite their battling performance in at times difficult wet conditions with interruptions for thundery showers, the match results went against the club. In a near reversal of round one placings the sixth and seventh place teams last time out finished second and third, behind leaders Liverpool this time. The result sees the HMAC squad slip into one of the two relegation spots, two points adrift of Glasgow, Southampton and Cardiff with a lower points tally.  A top three finish is needed  in the third and final fixture at Carshalton on 3rd August to guarantee success, although a lower position could do the trick if the other results go in the club's favour.
