Two
great Harriet Scott individual victories were among many fine performances
as the UK Women's team finished runners up in their Division 3 fixture at a
showery Mayesbrook on Sunday.
After a convincing front-running 800m win Harriet clawed back a massive margin in the home straight to get up on the line to win the 400m against 400m specialists setting a new PB of 56.90s – eighth fastest all tie by a club senior. Harriet also added a fast relay anchor leg to bring the squad home second too. The track events were the back bone of the club’s success. Lucy Sargent claimed a 100/200m sprint double. She took the shorter sprint with almost half a second margin and was even further ahead in the 200m. Before that she jumped a PB in the long jump, which she rarely competes in, and came back with a storming sprint relay leg. Faye Fullerton bagged another track double. She cruised to an easy B string 800m win, won the 1500m A race with a powerful last lap and also added a 400m relay leg. Sara Luck impressed with her steeplechase victory in the wettest conditions and other wins over the barriers came from Nicola Hill (A 400m hurdles) and Claire Brennan (100mH B). Also on the track Nicola Hill was second in the B 200m, Katie Richardson was third in the B 400m, Ingrid Deane fourth in the 1500m B and Lydia St Ange sixth in the 100m B. Nina Brennan contributed a useful 400m relay leg. Mel Harrison led the way on the field, placing second in the discus, fourth in the hammer and fifth in the shot. Lauren Clark was third in the B discus and Emma Christmas was also third in the javelin. Amy Cox was fourth in the B hammer as was Zoe Young (B javelin). The jumps offered slimmer pickings with Angela James’ B high jump third place the best return. Chloe van Wulven was sixth in the A high jump, James seventh in the triple jump, with Lydia St Ange fifth in the B, as was Zoe Young in the B long jump. Vaulters Danielle Ross and Hannah Connor were sixth and fifth respectively. The promising start sets up the squad for reclaiming their Division 2 place in the other two fixtures at Bedford on 4 July and Wigan on 1 August. |
