The ten-strong UK Women’s League team produced a stirring team display to finish sixth at Scotstoun Stadium Glasgow on Sunday to set up another tense finish to the season.

Alexa Joel has suffered her fair share of injuries but returned to the track in style with her first race since last May.  She took an early lead in the 3000m and never looked back as she won comfortably to show that she is on the road to recovery.  Behind her Gemma Phillips improved her best for the second time this season to place second in the B event and both returned to score well in the 1500m, Alexa finishing second and Gemma third.

Vicky Smith shrugged off injury to win the 2000m steeplechase in a season’s best, after another season’s best in the 800m, and adding 400m points.  Flic Clarke’s good form continued when she again improved her career best in finishing third in the 400m hurdles and she added season’s bests in both 100m & 200m and ran in both relays. Claire Brennan scored well placing third in the 100m hurdles in a season’s best and fourth in both 400m hurdles & High jump.  Chloe van Wulven was in excellent shape placing second in the high jump and running her fastest 100m hurdles time since 2004, but could only finish fifth in a high quality race. She also contested the triple jump & both relays.

Versatile Emma Christmas was fourth in the javelin and scored hammer points and set a new 100m best, as well as running the sprint relay, as did Zoe Young who was a fine runner up in the B javelin, fifth in the long jump and added shot points.   Ellie Watson was fifth in the B long jump, and scored points in both triple jump & 200m, and ran a 4x400m leg.  Nina Brennan completed the line-up earning vital throws points in three events.

The table is finely balanced & any two of five clubs could face the drop after the final fixture at Derby next month
