Another fourth placed finish in the second round fixture at a gloriously sunny Newham on Sunday looks to have secured another year in UK Women's League Div 2 for the senior ladies team.

Lauren Deadman was a class apart winning both of her events. She was almost 30 seconds clear in winning the 3000m from Bristol's 2012 Olympics representative Claire Hallissey and returned later to win the 1500m by the length of the straight in a season's best. Lauren capped a successful day with the fastest split in the 4x400m relay.

Her middle distance partners both logged second places. Vicky Smith placed second in the 1500m after finishing fourth in the 800m A race & fifth in the 400m B, while Robyn Matson's 3000m season's best also won runners up points. Robyn returned to the track later to tackle the steeplechase for the first time for almost six years, finishing fifth.

There were good points in the javelin as Emma Christmas was third in a centimetre short of 40m, while Louise Lockwood scored maximum points in the B string. Rachel Forder was second in the discus on her league debut and added shot points.  Bethan Siddons was another runner up in the triple jump, after placing third equal in her high jump speciality and third in the B long jump in a season's best. Zoe Young covered a gap in the B triple jump for third, and added points in the long jump in a season's best, and 100m.

Tina Quinlivan shrugged off a wrist injury to place fourth in the vault, and Claire Brennan's 400m hurdles season best was also fourth, and she added another fourth in the B high jump and fifth in the sprint hurdles. Sam Hill added fourth place points in the B discus and also set a new 400m PB and Nina Brennan defied injury to add hammer and shot points. Clare Davies ran well on her league debut to improve her PB in placing fifth in the B 800m and Rachel Kerr ran her fastest time this year in the 200m.

But the story of the day came in the A string 200m when 17-year old Tayla Humm found herself on her league debut matched against the inspirational Christine Ohuruogu who was representing her home club Newham. Tayla was close to her best in sixth as the World & Olympic Champion was second behind Milton Keynes' athlete Joey Duck. Tayla said afterwards "I spoke to Christine before the race & told her that I'd met her when I was in Year 7 and she was visiting her former school, St Edwards". The Campion sixth form student never imagined that five years later she would be lining up alongside one of Britain's greatest athletes!

With just the third and final fixture remaining Havering will travel to Portsmouth on Sunday 6th July with a strong hope of securing another year in Division Two although an improved result from the relegation threatened hosts could drag the other teams above them into the mix.
