The Youth Development League crop of talented youngsters were last night celebrating promotion to the Southern Premier 2 Divisions after lifting the Division 1N title. Straight victories in the first three fixtures had ensured that promotion was a formality & an under-par fourth place finish in heat wave conditions at Hendon on Saturday was more than enough to bring them home four points clear of Bedford in the league stakes.

Ben Ellis impressed winning the Under 15 Boys' 300m in a new club best & also winning the 800m & placing second in the 200m in his fastest ever time too. Matt Owers also improved his best in winning the 80m hurdles and was second in the B high jump.  Sonny Nash won the javelin on his league debut for the club and John Nelson took the B string honours.

Emma Sharp's winning javelin PB was the second longest ever by a club Under 15 girl, and Georgia Woodburn made it full points in winning the B string. Modupe Shokunbi added her usual sprints double, with the 200m clocking a new PB and there were field events victories from Katie Dawson (high jump) and Freya Gutteridge (discus), with Amy Baggs runner up in the discus B and Josie Waddams second in the B shot. The relay squad of Katie, Josie, Holly Nash & Modupe were runners up.

The Under 13 Girls  were close to full strength and recorded nine wins and four second places. Isabella Purdie's win in U13 hurdles took her to second on the all-time list & closer to the club record, and she was also second in the 75m B race in her fastest time and long jump. Isobel McDonach produced her best form to win the 75m and B shot and also posted the third fastest 150m time by a club U13, although wind-aided. Katie & Jessica Mitchell won both 800m strings & Rebecca Brown won the 1200m with Kate O'Neil second in the B.  Hollie King won the B hurdles in a new PB and Philippa Gill improved her best to win the shot and Elizabeth Adams was second in the high jump. The sprint relay squad of Isabella, Isobel, Rebecca & Katie took the honours also.

The Under 13 Boys had to contend with several key athletes missing and just six athletes made the starting line up. Harvey Joliffe's hurdles PB brought him an easy win and proved to be the only victory in this age group.  Aaron Freshwater was third in the hurdles B & scored in both sprints, Sam Mezoori's highest placing was third in the long jump and James Adams, Oliver Woods & Harry Jones added more points for the cause.
