Havering's young athletes started their promotion campaign with a comprehensive victory at a chilly Ashford in their first Youth Development League fixture of the year on Saturday coming home 65 points clear of the rest. A great all round team performance was capped by a superb series of wins in the throws and jumps which made it a field day for Havering.

The Under 15 Girls led the way with five victories. Becca Brown and Jess Mitchell comfortably took maximum points with wins in both the 800m races and Grace Newson was well clear in winning the B string hurdles, while Isobel McDonach's shot PB brought her victory and Isabella Purdie took the B long jump honours. Caitlin Saggers & Jade Kavanagh were both second in the 200m, as were 1500m pairing of Kate O'Neill & Sophie Rand. Mayi Hughes was second in the long jump & shot and was edged out of high jump victory on countback despite a PB, while personal bests for Rosie Brown (discus) & Tilly Metz-White (Javelin) also earned runners up spots. Isobel, Caitlin, Jess & Becca scored a good second place in the 4x300m relay.

The Under 15 Boys showed good form as Max Law took full points in both javelin & discus (PB) and Jairzinho Morris won the long jump, after second places in both sprints.  Joseph Hogan-O'Neill won the B discus. Tobi Idowu won second places in the long jump & shot, and Ayden Jordan (300m), late replacement James Adams (javelin) & Aaron Freshwater (hammer) all added to the runners up tally, as the team thrived against good opposition to notch a glut of PBs.

Many of the Under 13 Girls were competing at this level for the first time and shone with three wins, with Adelaide Thatcher-Gray contributing a pair of these in javelin A & shot B, and Ayesha Anderson winning the B high jump on her league debut. Grace Griffith's shot PB placed second as did Ruby Mace who stepped into the javelin at short notice and was runner up. On the track Alice Brown & Hannah Panchal both set PBs on their way to 800m second places, as did Sydney Foley in the 1200m B.

The young Under 13 Boys recorded many PBs for their efforts. Peter Brinton-Quinn & Hal Hutton excelled in the throws. Peter's winning javelin throw was third longest ever by a club U13 and Hal's B string winning throw was sixth best ever, and both were shot runners up, while Victor Hughes was second in the B 800m.

The squad need to keep up their fine form in the remaining three fixtures to win back the Premier 2 Division place they lost last year.
