Havering's high flying young athletes have sealed promotion to the National Premier Division of the Youth Development League with one fixture to spare after a third straight victory at Basildon on Sunday. Such is their dominance in the division that they only need to turn up at Chelmsford on 18th July to confirm their top position.

New Under 13 Boys sprint sensation Kareem Jerome goes from strength to strength with a hat-trick of victories in the 100m, 200m & shot, and making the 100m club record his own, after equalling it seven days earlier.  He is now ranked number 2 nationally for 100m & third for 200m.  Kareem also combined with Victor Hughes, Ashton Thatcher-Gray & Peter Brinton-Quinn for a relay win. Hal Hutton won the B javelin, with Peter second in the A, and Victor was second in both B sprints.

The Under 15 Girls showed great strength in depth despite achieving no A string victories although Molly Sweetman (1500m), Isobel McDonach (shot) & Rosie Brown (discus) all scored full points in their B string events. There was a glut of runners up spots with Jess Mitchell (800m), Kate O’Neill (1500m), Grace Newson (hurdles), Philippa Gill (shot) and Katherine Buckley (discus & hammer) all finishing second in their A strings  while similar success was earned in the B strings by debutant Jaznial Bolton (100m), Millie Hodges (hurdles), and Philippa again in the B javelin & hammer.

English-Schools bound Jack Rice & Max Law provided wins for the Under 15 Boys, as Jack cruised home in the 1500m and Max won the javelin. Success Ariyibi (300m) and Joseph Hogan O’Neill (discus) took full points in their B string events. Second place A string points were won by Tobi Idowu (long jump) & Nathan Leach in his pole vault debut, while Ayden Jordan (shot) and Sam Mezoori (long jump) added B string runners up positions.

Grace Griffiths provided the only victory for the Under 13 Girls in the long jump with B event second places also in the hurdles & high jump. Alice Brown was a fine second on her 1200m debut, with Sydney Foley second in the B and Adelaide Thatcher-Gray was second in the A javelin .

It was another fine all–round team display with good points coming across all event groups that won the day against the strong hosts and Chelmsford, who are the closest challengers but too far adrift now to challenge for the only promotion place.
