Home victory keeps the Under 13 & Under 15 squad in a three-way fight for the two promotion slots to reach the highest division of the Youth Development League.

Havering came out on top In a high quality meeting which produced three league records, including one in the Under 15 boys’ javelin for Max Law. Law’s 61.40m winning throw was his second longest and improved his own league record set in the first fixture, and he also added victory in the discus. Robert Moore & Joe Hogan-O’Neill added full points with hammer A & B wins and Moore was runner up in B shot & discus.  Euan McDonnell was second in the high jump with a PB on his debut and Ben Hamberger’s PB won the B. Alex Friend smashed his 800m PB in second and Kimathi Christie easily won the B string for the only U15 boys’ track win.

After missing out on a club record last timeout due to a judging error, the Under 15 girls made no mistake this time as Caitlin Saggers, Freya Duffy, Rosie Brown and Jade Kavanagh won in a time which took over four seconds off the previous club mark. Brown also starred with a winning double in the discus and the 300m in a new PB. Her partners Robyn Moody (discus) and Hannah Panchal (300m) did well with respective first and second places. The hurdles pairing of Millie Hodges and Elize Bonning were both second and Molly Sweetman’s took chunks off her 150m best for second.  Paris Avers was second in the B hammer and second in the shot, and the javelin pairing of Adelaide Thatcher-Gray and Amy Nash also both placed second.

Ashton Thatcher-Gray’s long jump win was the sole Under 13 boys’ win but there was much to cheer about in a good all-round display from a squad full of athletes competing at this level for the first time. Ashton was also runner-up in the B 200m, as was Alex Ford in the 1500m, while Daragh Thomas added second place points in both B long & high jump events. The strength of the opposition was such that newcomer Oscar Osuala’s 100m clocking of 12.8s was good enough to rank in the club all-time top 10 but only placed third on the day.

Nike Esho’s winning high jump clearance of 1.40m took her to fifth on the all-time club list for the Under 13 girls with Lola Kuponiyi taking in the B string also, as well as winning the A shot.  Alice Atkins won the B hurdles with Ruby Mace second in the A and the 1200m duo of Sydney Foley & Alice Brown both set PBs in placing second, with Brown also second in the javelin B.

Havering need to finish ahead of either Portsmouth or Herne Hill in the final match at Croydon on 16th July to win promotion to the southern Premier 1 Division.
