A fourth place finish at Sandy confirmed that the under-strength U17 & U20 Youth Development League squad placed third in the table as Stevenage won promotion to the Premier Division.

The girls scored well in the field events.  Georgie Taylor & Laura Drew won both U20 discus strings and Rachel Forder won the U17 match.  In the shot Debbie Knight won the U20 A with Georgie winning the B and Rachel second in the U17 competition.   Debbie won the U20 javelin & covered the hammer winning the B in a PB, as Laura set a new PB in the B for third & Rachel won the U17 equivalent.

More field event success came from Chenice Constable who won the U17 high jump, as well as finishing second in both long jump & 200m, and Mercy Gutteridge who won the U17 pole vault and was close to her javelin best in third.  Nina Olatunbosun won the B U20 long jump and was second in the 100m B.

Track points were harder to come by with Michelle Hughes’ 80m hurdles victory over English Schools’ fourth placer Charlotte Underwood the highlight.  Bella Woods improved her steeplechase best despite the windy conditions, placing second, and was also second in the 400m hurdles.  Tomi |Akingbade was third in both 100m & triple jump on her league debut .  Lucy Bailey was third in the 100m and Louise Lear was fourth in both her individual events the 300m & triple jump (PB).

The men’s squad were hard hit by absences but turned in some solid results. Lewis Middleton’s long jump PB won him the U17 event and he was third in the javelin & fourth in high jump.  Michael Duncan’s PB in the discus won the U17 competition and he was fourth in the 200m.  Michael also joined Ed Thompson, Abdul Mohamed and Tom Pitkin to form the winning U17 men’s 4x400m team quartet. Ed had earlier placed second in the pole vault, Abdul was third in the 1500m and Tom second in both hurdles events.

There were good points in the U20 sprint hurdles as Robbie Clarricoats was runner up in the A, after also finishing second in the 100m, while Karl Tucker won the B. Another B string victory came by virtue of Matthew Sturges’ pole vault PB and Matthew also scored in the shot & javelin. John Adekoya was second in the U20 triple jump in a new PB and also bettered his previous long jump mark in third, and added third place high jump points.  Another second place went to Matthew Braybrook who improved his best in the  U17 ‘chase while Nick Duffey smashed his U20 discus best in third and was also third in the hammer & added 800m & shot points.

Completing the line-up were Bradley West who was third in the U17 3000m and Ebrahim Marenah who added to the points tally in both sprints.
