A depleted Under 17 & Under 20 squad are still in with a slim chance of promotion after a third place finish in their match which ended in very wet conditions at Eltham on Sunday.

The ladies team were in good form although lacking in their usual numbers with ten wins in the Under 20 competition and six in the Under 17 strings.  Lydia Hallam had a comfortable double, cruising to 800m victory before winning the 400m in the final strides.  Tayla Humm won both sprints running faster than before to win the 100m in a wind-assisted PB before taking the 200m in calmer conditions later in the day. Georgie Taylor was close to her career best in winning the shot won the B 400m and later added a discus win in the rain.  Mercy Gutteridge had an easy pole vault victory and Chenice Constable & Katie Dawson combined for a win double in the high jump.  The U20 line up was completed by Bella Woods who smashed her 400m hurdles best, losing out on victory by 1/100th of a second, and added another second place with a season’s best in the 1500m, Nina Olatunbosun who was second & third respectively in the 100m & 200m B races, Beth James who gained third place points in long & triple jumps and was second in the B shot, and Heidi Surman-Wells who was B long jump runner up.

In the Under 17 women’s strings Modupe Shokunbi eased to her usual sprint double and Sarah Wilson and Lois Wyatt both set new personal bests when winning both strings of the 1500m. Field wins came courtesy of Louise Lear’s triple jump success and Freya Gutteridge edged victory in the discus, and added shot & hammer points. Lucy Bailey (hurdles & high jump), Chenice Constable (long jump), Louise Lear (100m B) & Heidi Surman Wells (800m & 200m) all added runners up points in a short-handed line up.

The men's team were missing their four English Schools entrants through post-exam holidays & injury. With just four Under 20 men available there was a thin showing in this age group but Josh Olawore set two PBs in placing second in both sprints, and Sydney Conteh improved his 400m best on his debut in third.  Karl Tucker returned from injury for second in the B 100m and also won the B hammer and Abdul Mohamed was second in the 1500m. Under 17s Ed Brinton-Quinn, Ed Johnson & Olla Obaye all added points for the U20 cause.

There was a better turn out in the Under 17 competitions and those present notched up a flurry of new marks. The only wins came from Sonny Nash who won both the javelin & hammer, the latter in a new PB and also improved his best in placing second in the shot.  Runners up spots were earned by Fraser Boston with a new triple jump best, Finn Hutton in both 400m & 800m B strings, and James Stewart in the B 1500m in a new PB, as Bradley West also set a new career mark for third in the A. Matt Owers placed third in both hurdles, with a new PB in the 100m hurdles event, Zack Killoran improved his 3000m best in third, while Morgan Seaman set a new 200m PB.  Michael Duncan (400m), Olla Obaye (long & high jumps) and Matthew Braybrook (800m & chase) all added to the team tally

The three-way fight for a place in the Premier Division between Cambridge Harriers, Herts Phoenix and Havering will be settled at the final fixture at Walthamstow on 27th July.
