Havering’s Under 17 & Under 20 Youth Development squad lifted the Division 1 North East title after a third place finish at Medway Park, Gillingham on Sunday and are just one step away from reaching the Southern Premier Division.

Philippa Gill’s new club hammer record was one of eight wins for the powerful Under 17 women's team. And she added a javelin PB for second and third in the shot. Mayi Hughes won the sprint hurdles and long jump and was 300m hurdles runner up , and Katherine Buckley also added a win double in the B string shot & hammer, as well as placing third in the discus. Izzy Purdie won the B sprint hurdles and was second in the B long jump while on the track Jess Mitchell and Kate O’Neill both won their 800m & 1500m races and Holly Nash completed the line up with sprint points.

The small Under 20 women scored well as all-rounder Michelle Hughes won the sprint hurdles and shot, both in PBS, and was second in the 200m & javelin, Lucy Bailey won the B hurdles and scored well in the high jump, discus & 100m, and Lydia Hallam front ran the 1500m for full points.  Beth James returned from injury with a season’s best triple jump for second.  Michelle was joined by Under 17s Jess Mitchell & Kate O’Neil and her sister Mayi Hughes in the victorious 4x400m quartet.

Michael Duncan starred for the Under 20 men's squad with wins in the discus and hammer (PB) and runner up in both javelin (PB) & shot, as Ed Brinton-Quinn provided strong back up with two wins a second & third. Ben Davis improved his best in a solo 20000m ‘chase victory and Fraser Boston’s PB won the 400m B race in style. Ayo Akingbehin smashed his best in both sprints & the long jump with three second places. Timi Kuye was third in the 100m B and Elliott Addison second in the triple jump as Matt Owers (400m & high jump), Aidan Elmore (800m & 1500m) and James Stewart (3000m) added points to the cause

Paul Okesola’s discus win was the only A victory for the Under 17 men but a good team performances, aided by a trio f Thurrock athletes competing under league second claim rules, kept the team in touch. Shandell Taylor recorded a trio of second places in long jump, high jump & javelin, and more second spots were claimed by John Fennessey (800m and long jump) and Kayode Odumosu (high jump). Liam Chivers smashes his 400m PB in third and Sam Atkins was also third in the 1500m B while Matthew Agnimel showed promise on his return to club action with fast sprint times. Charlie Splarn joined Liam, Matthew & Shandell in the third placed sprint relay squad and Luke Soulsby (800m PB) and Luke Debenham (1500m) completed theline up.

With the four rounds won by four different clubs, the Havering squad’s title was down to consistency with a win, a second, third and fourth to their credit. They now go forward to the “paper” match against the other Divisional winners Bedford& Kingston which compares results across the four rounds to decide who gets the two Premier League promotion places.
