Danielle Ross and Nicola Schofield were the fastest two Under 15 hurdlers
in action as the second round of the Indoor Sprints and Hurdles Series
took place at Crystal
Palace on Saturday. And rapidly improving Caroline Smith was not far
behind as she twice smashed her personal best.
With many of the leading hurdlers taking part in the South of England
Championships at Bedford, the field was clear for the HMAC leading duo to mark
their mark. Sure enough Danielle Ross won all three rounds, with training
partner Nicola Schofield in close contention in second. Ross equalled her
best of 9.9 secs in the first race, and repeated the feat in the third
race to record the fastest on the day. Schofield trimmed a tenth of second
from her best in the opening race, clocking 10.0 secs, and equalled this
time in the remaining two races to finish second fastest. Caroline Smith
shone, taking two-tenths off her best in the first round, recording 10.4
secs, and reduced her time further to 10.3 secs in the last race. She
looks set to offer a closer challenge to Danielle and Nicola in the final event
of the Indoor Series at Crystal
Palace in three weeks (3 February).
Earlier, in the morning 60m sprint races Nicola Schofield had
the upper hand with 8.4 secs
clocking, just outside her best, but still good enough for equal fastest
on the day.
Danielle Ross and Caroline Smith both equalled their best times.
In the u17 60m hurdles event Nina Brennan was outside her best with a
10.8 secs effort. |
