Four Girls' Golds at Essex Cross Country Champs
Essex Young Athletes' Cross Country Champs, Hylands Park Chelmsford 16 December 2000
Havering
Mayesbrook’s girls’ under 13 and 15 teams swept aside the opposition to win
both of the team and individual titles at the Essex Young Athletes Cross Country
Championships at Chelmsford on Saturday. And
the boys’ teams did not go away empty handed as there were bronze team medals
for the under 13 boys.
Megan
Foley confirmed her status as the best under 13 girl in Essex, winning the
individual gold and leading her team mates to the team prize. Charlotte Watkins
claimed the individual silver and Robyn Matson in 7th and Leanne
O’Neill in 12th completed the winning quartet.
The B team of Vicky Smith (14th), Charlotte Wood (17th)
Robyn Delivett (32nd) and Jackie Hilton (37th) placed
fourth.
In
the under 15 girls race there was another gold as Sara Luck dominated her age
group and she was well supported by closely bunched Natalie Adams (12th),
Rosie Saunders (13th) and Lynsey Clark (14th) who made up
the foursome who claimed team gold. Fourth place in this race also went to the
HMAC B Team of Caroline Smith (16th), Nicola Scofield (18th),
Carmel Munson (23rd) and Laura Moore (24th).
Good
performances by the boys’ teams were a little overshadowed by the girls’
dominance. A good team performance
by the under 13 boys’ team of Matthew Watkins (11th), Paul Andrews
(12th), Andrew Luck (13th) and David Nefs (14th)
brought the team bronze medals with the B team fifth. The under 15 boys were
also fifth in the team event with Danny Skelt first home in 13th,
with Robert Howe 21st, James Deane 25th and Andrew Bright
29th.
Essex Veterans' Cross Country Champs, Hylands Park Chelmsford 16 December 2000
In
the veterans’ county event, held at the same venue, star billing went to Tim
Pailthorpe who won the individual Men's V60 age group gold. In the veteran
ladies event Havering Mayesbrook
were unable to field a full team but Lesley Felton made up for this by gaining the individual bronze
medal placing third, with Dawn Hawes in ninth and Linda Smith in 28th.
