Essex Young Athletes Relay Championships 23 September 2000

SEASON ENDS IN STYLE FOR YOUNG ATHLETES

Havering Mayesbrook AC’s young athletes completed their track season in fine style at Basildon on Saturday taking a clutch of medals home from the Essex County Relay Championships.

Pride of place went to the girls under- 13 and under-15 3 x 800m squads who both took the gold medals with runaway victories. The under-13s trio consisted of Robyn Matson, Charlotte Watkins and Megan Foley whilst the under 15 stars were Caroline Smith, Nicola Schofield and Sara Luck.

Silver medals went to the under-15 4 x 100m quartet – Amy Rogers, Nicola Schofield, Michelle Haley and Laura Jones and also the under-17s 3 x 800m trio of Natalie Adams, Lauren Deadman and Emma Baglin.

For the boys, silver medals went to the under-13, under-15 and under-17 4 x 100m teams. The youngest age group was represented by David Nefs, James Gregory, Andrew Luck and Christian Newton, the under-15s by Mark Connelly, Andrew Bartlett, Peter Phillips and Matthew Kelsey and the under-17s by Greg Smith, Andy Green, Steven Prady and Mark Gardiner. Smith, Prady and Gardiner also combined with Martin Heys to take another silver in the 4 x 400m event.

In the under-15 age group, the Club took both the silver and bronze medals through Joe Golding, Tom Penrose and Daryl Rogers and James Deane, Peter Phillips and Danny Skelt.

In the last event of the afternoon, Rob Warner took the bronze medal in the Junior Men’s 2000m Steeplechase.
