Eastern Young Athletes League – Colchester - 17 June 2001

The combined under 17 boys and girls team travelled to Colchester for the second Eastern Young Athletes’ League meeting of the season. The boys and girls dominated the meeting and finished way ahead of the rest of the field by some 150 points with Stevenage placed second, Dacorum in third and Colchester in fourth.

In the under 13 girls team Helen McDonnell had an outstanding day with four 1st places in the 100m, 200m, High Jump and 4x100m Relay.  Lauren Clark was also in excellent form with wins in the 800m (A) and Discus (A).

In the under 13 boys team Matthew Watkins had an equally impressive day with individuals wins in the 100m (B), 200m (B), 800m (B) and also took part in the 4x100m Relay who finished well ahead of the rest of the field.  Jay Ryan, Peter Tyler and Michael Jenkins also acquitted themselves well by all having two individual wins and combined together in the winning relay team.  Jay won the High Jump (B) and 800m (B).  Michael won the High Jump (A) and 400m (B).  Peter Tyler won the 100m (A) and 200m (A).  Other boys who gained two individual wins were Matthew Jones and Anthony Williams.

In the under 15 girls team there were a number of girls who gained two individual wins on the day.  Christina Kalejaiye in the 200m (B) and Long Jump (B), Caroline Smith in the 75m Hurdles (A) and Shot (B), Carmel Munson in the 800m (B) and Javelin (B) and Sara Luck in the 1500m (A) and High Jump (B).

Andrew Bartlett had an outstanding day for the under 15 boys by dominating the field with wins in the 100m (A), 200m (A), 400m (A) and the 4x100m Relay.  Other double winning members of the under 15 boys were Scott Keating, Danny Skelt and Terry O’Leary.  Scott won the Long Jump (B) with a personal best performance and the 100m (B).  Danny Skelt won the 800m (A) and 400m (B).  Terry won the Shot (A) and Javelin (A).

For the under 17 girls Nina Brennan was another double winner on the day.  She gained success in the 80m Hurdles (B) and Discus (B).

In the under 17 boys squad Steven Prady, Bob Thanda and James Deane all had three individual wins.  Steven was placed first in the Long Jump (A), High Jump (A) and Triple Jump (A).  Bob gained wins in the 200m (B), 400m (A) and Shot (B).  James won in the 400m (B), 800m (B) and Triple Jump (B).  Greg Smith and Matthew Kelsey both gained two individual wins and combined with Bob Thanda and Tom Gregory to power the 4x100m Relay team to victory.

In all, the teams continued their excellent start to the season which sees the Clubs 100% record remaining intact, despite the poor weather conditions.
