Despite age group wins from the under 15 and under 17 girls
Havering Mayesbrook ended up back in fourth in the end of season Eastern Young
Athletes Final at Bedford on Sunday as Milton Keynes finished well clear of
Basildon and Stevenage.
The Under 17 girls romped to a 22 point win as Mel Harrison
(javelin and discus) and Caroline Smith (800m B and discus B) recorded double
wins, while Claire Sargent (hurdles) and Amy Rogers (javelin B) were also
victorious.
The under 15 girls held off Basildon for victory in the team
stakes. Individual wins came from Megan Foley (800m), Helen McDonnell (75m
hurdles B), Louise Yard (B discus) while the 4x100m quartet also came home in
front.
A young under 13 girls team, many of whom have another year
in the age group, ended up fifth and sprint find Natasha White was the only
winner with successes in both 100m & 200m events.
The boys’ teams also struggled to
make an impact with the under 17s in fifth best placed as both under 13s and
under 15s placed sixth of the eight teams.
A double high jump victory from
Mark Connelly and Scott Keating in the A & B competitions was supported by
Joe Golding’s 400m B win to produce the only under 17 winners. In the under 15
competition Harry Tyler dominated the javelin for an easy win, while Paul
Andrews’ 1500m B victory was the other success in this age group. Nat Senior
(high jump) and Vincent Lazaro (long jump B) were the sole winners for the under
13s
