The Eastern Young Athletes team lost their unbeaten record when league leaders Bedford edged past them for a home win in the Division 1 fixture on Sunday. In the end the hosts won by 16.5 points, and were ahead in five of the six categories, with only the HMAC U17 women gaining an upper hand. Six of the club's nine English Schools Champs contingent tuned up with their final competitions. Bonne Buwembo put his injury behind him to throw beyond 60m in the u17 javelin and had a 63m effort controversially ruled out, while fellow chucker Georgie Bean was head and shoulders above the u15 javelin field. Matt Bloy cruised to 800m victory and set a 400m PB in the U15s, and Vince Lazaro again long jump over 6.40m to win. Nicola Hill improved her long jump PB to 5.37m and also won her speciality 80m Hurdles in impressive form. Frankie Calder was the only one of the six not to win but she improved her 300m PB in a quality race. The U17 women had plenty else to celebrate. Catrina McAuliffe had a hat-trick of wins in the A discus, and B long jump (PB) & hurdles. Alex Beard continued to improve with 300m & 800m PBs and Ingrid Deane took a step back towards her 800m best and added a new string to her bow, winning the B triple jump. Lauren Newton won the B discus & improved her javelin PB. For the U15 girls training partners Zoey Littlechild & Emma Fox battled it out for an A & B victories in the combined race, with Zoey having the edge. Jessica Humpheryes and Becky Luck won A & B discus and Kike Oniwinde again won the javelin, while Nicole Dalton's 300m PB earned her B string victory. Newcomer Angela James impressed with a B hurdles win and a 1.50m high jump clearance, and Jennifer Holland took B string honours. Nicola Peachey again doubled to win 800m B & hurdles A, with Jessica Seekings taking the B hurdles. There were also doubles for Simbiat Salami (100m & HJ) and Rebecca O'Neill (800m & DT). Sophie Baggs further improved her PB to win the discus. For the u17s boys wins also went to Dan Winters &Rob Jones (1500m), Paul Adair (800m B), Cafer Gunay (B Javelin - PB), Craig Moore (Discus B). In the U15s Brad Burr was 2nd behind Georgie Bean and took B honours, & Mike Jones came up trumps in the A discus. Middle distance wins were gained by the 800m duo of Simon Brown & Callum Sutton, while John Whitehead won the 1500m. The U15 sprint relay team were the only squad to break Bedford's dominance of the relays. The U13s found wins hard to come by but Jake Nelson (hurdles) and Andrew Kerr (B shot) did take maximum points in their events.
