National Junior Men's League, Thames Division, Woodford 29 April 2001
Junior
Men Start in Style
Havering Mayesbrooks Junior Mens team began their first campaign in the National Junior League for a number of years with an excellent all-round performance at Woodford on Sunday.
The
squad of eleven athletes took second place in the Thames Division behind a
strong Dartford team, defeating Thurrock, Basildon, Bexley, Woodford, Orion and
Southend in the process. The
only A string winner was Kevin Deacon who took the Hammer event with a new
personal best performance of 41.18m. Andrew Tierney also set a new pb to take
second in the B event and the strength of the teams throwers was
demonstrated again with good points scoring by Deacon, Tierney and Tom Melrose
in the Javelin, Shot and Discus events.
On
the track, Andy Green set a new pb in the 100m with an 11.3sec second place and
he followed up with the same position in the 200m. In the 400m, both Dave Allen
and Darren Smith earned good points whilst Peter Jones set new personal best
figures for the 1500m.
It
was an encouraging start for the Juniors who go to Thurrock in mid-June for the
next League meeting.
