National Junior Men's League, Thames Division, Ware 25 April 2004

A small team of 8 athletes travelled to Ware on Sunday to compete in the opening match of the National Junior Men’s League Thames Division.

Having only 8 athletes it was important to cover as many events as possible.  The athletes managed to cover 24 events, winning seven and finishing second in eleven. Bringing the team to an excellent 2nd place on the day.

Team captain Simon Parker picked up 3rd place in the 100m with 11.6secs.  He was unfortunate in the 200m ‘A’ string race, being given the same time as the winner but given 2nd place with a time of 22.8secs.  He hop-stepped-jumped his way to 4th in the triple jump and was part of the 4x100m really squad that finished 2nd.

Second claim athletes Adam Shaw and Aaron Edwards were on fine form throughout the day notching up 48 points between them.  Adam was second in the 400m 1st in the ‘B’ String 200m and 2nd in the ‘A’ String 200m Steeplechase.

Aaron ran a Personal Best time in the 110mHurdles with a time of 17.8s.  He was given some last minute coaching before the pole vault, which helped him to 3rd with a vault of 2.60m. He managed 2nd in the discus and shot. Both Adam and Aaron were part of the 4x100m relay team.

Terry O’Leary was another athlete in fine scoring form winning the ‘A’ String Javelin – 43.72m, the ‘B’ String Discus – 31.38m and 3rd in the ‘A’ String Hammer with a Personal Best of 27.77m.

Mark Gardiner was 2nd in the ‘A’ String Long Jump, 1st in the ‘B’ String Triple Jump, 2nd in the ‘B’ String 100m and 2nd in the ‘B’ String Steeplechase.  Mark was also part of the 4x100m relay team.

Other winners on the day were Joe Golding in the 800m, Harry Tyler in the ‘B’ String Javelin and Scott Keating in the ‘B’ String Shot .

Joe Golding was also 4th in the 1500m and Scott was 2nd in the High Jump

With a possible 11 athletes returning to the squad for the next round at Parliament Hill the pressure will be off the athletes that competed on Sunday.
