National Junior Men's League, Thames Division, Parliament Hill 23 May 2004

Team captain Simon Parker, tired after competing in the men's southern league division 3 on Saturday, achieved 3rd in the A string 100m 3rd in the A string 200m 1st in the B string Triple Jump and ran second leg of the 4x100m which also finished 3rd.  This was not bad considering he had done 5 events the day before.

Sprint Partner Luke Stott was on blistering form all afternoon.  Tackling the 400m Hurdles for the first time ever, he could have been mistaken for Skippy the Kangaroo.  Leading with 150m to go he managed to knock a hurdle and his confidence and came home 2nd overall but 1st in the B string with a PB of 64.2secs and newcomer Adam Brett finishing 2nd in the A string .  Luke added 3 more PBs wining the B string 100m, 200m and finishing 2nd in the A string Long Jump.  Luke also ran last leg of the 4x100m.

Also on the track Adam Shaw was in fine form winning the 400m A string, 800m B String.  400m partner Lewis Huckfield ran a PB in the B String and a PB in the 3000m B String finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively.  Lewis also filled in, in the B String Hammer finishing 3rd.

Andrew Meech won the A String 800m, dipping under 2minutes for a comfortable win. Other PBs on the day came to Ross Clarke in the 3000m, Jay Ryan in the Pole Vault and 2000m Steeple Chase, Danny Quinn in the A String 2000m Steeple Chase, Harry Tyler in the A String Javelin, Alex Van Ristell in the B String Javelin and B String Discus, Scott Keating in the B String long-jump had to ask for his distance to be re-read just to make sure as he had beaten a three-year old PB without any training.

Multi-Eventer Aaron Edwards was busy all afternoon securing 3rd in the 110m Hurdles, 1st in the B String High-jump, 2nd in the A String Shot, 2nd in the A String Discus and 1st in the B string Pole Vault.

James Coppeard made a dash across London to get to his Triple Jump 10 minutes before the start.  Suffering from shin splints he still managed to jump into 1st place in the A String.
Andrew Meech and Ross Clarke almost walked round the 1500m just to cover the event and picked up 9 points between them.

The Match was not finalised until the 4x400m had been run.  Herts Phoenix had to win the race and finish 2 places ahead of Havering to win the match.
After the first leg Havering were sitting last and Herts Phoenix were winning. Then two very fast legs brought the team into 3rd just behind Woodford Green.  Adam Shaw took the baton and charged after the Woodford runner and somehow managed to beat him in the last 10m of the race, ensuring that Havering sealed the VICTORY!!!!

The next round is at Ipswich on 20th June.  Havering will be looking to strengthen their squad further, with 9 extra athletes available next time.
