Bonne Buwembo - still only 15 - broke Mark Bishop's 19-year-old club javelin u20 record competing in the National Junior League at a very damp Carshalton on Sunday.

His massive throw of 54.57m with the senior 800gm javelin also took him to third on the club senior list but was only good enough to place second in the competition on the day.

Ross Clarke smashed the two minute barrier for the 800m for the first time with a massive PB of 1m 57.13s to rank 7th all-time among club u17s.  Such was the competition that his effort placed him fourth.

Top four placings were as ever hard to achieve. Cafer Gunay provided good support to Bonne with third in the B javelin, and fellow-u17 Eugene Ayanful came through for fourth in the 200m, after a disappointing 100m run and contributed legs to both relays, as did Luke Stott was also 4th in the A 200m and fifth in the A 100m.

Multi-eventers Aaron Edwards and Scott Keating worked hard but their best placings were in the high jump where they both ranked fourth. Chris Newton tackled three events and recorded two fifth places, including a pole vault PB.

Completing the team with league debuts were Anthony Williams and Chris McLachlan, and an under-the-weather Andrew Meech who confined his efforts to a 4x400m relay leg. David Nefs, nursing a hamstring injury, did well for 800m B fifth.

The combined efforts of the improved men's team were rewarded when they held off Belgrave to finish seventh in the team competition - the first time they have avoided the wooden spoon position.

Despite finishing bottom of the table they will enjoy another year in the Premier Division as the league format changes to joint men's and women's teams for next summer - and they have the stronger ladies squad to thank for preserving their top flight status.
