Southern Women's League, Kingsmeadow, Saturday 5th July 2003

The Southern Women’s Team struggled this weekend, as they were up against tough competition and had a depleted team.  The team finished a disappointing 5^th and only managed to gain 132points.  However the team is still placed 9^th in the league and there were some excellent performances from some of our younger athletes.  

Lucy Sargent was once again in excellent form, winning the 100metres and finishing 2^nd in the long jump.  Team mate Lauren McVicar who was suffering with a foot problem showed her team spirit as she competed in the 100m, javelin, discus and relay.  Amie Adams had a busy day competing in the 800m, 1500m, and 200m gaining two 3^rd places and a 5^th.  Youngsters Michaela Roberts and Nicola Hill proved they could mix it with the older age group, with Roberts producing an exciting run in the 800m to achieve a new PB of 2.34mins and finishing 1^st in the B race.  Hill had an excellent run over the 75m hurdles on only her third attempt at this distance and finished 2^nd in her race.  Lisa Schofield had a good day finishing 1^st in the 75m hurdles, and 2^nd in the long jump and discus.  Hayley Thomas showed she is getting back from injury in finishing 2^nd   in the 1500m.

The Senior Women saw some new and old faces competing in club colours.  With the return of training partners Laura Jones and Terri Johnson the 100m and the 200m was well covered.  Amy Rogers had her first outing as a senior finishing 4^th in the 100m and the javelin.  Robyn Delivett ran a PB in the 200m clocking 28.9seconds.  Laurie Cossey finished a respectable 4^th in the 400m, with team mate Ria Lyons finishing 3^rd in the B race.  

The distance events proved to be high point scorers with Leslie Felton and Carly Mottram both finishing 2^nd in their 800m races, and Helen Roche and Natalie Adams both finishing 1^st in their 1500m races. 

Katie O’Sullivan ran well in the 300m hurdles even though she was delayed by traffic arriving ten minutes before her race.  Nicola Schofield finished 4^th in the 400m hurdles, Sue Deboos and Hannah Gamester showed their team spirit by competing in a number of unfamiliar events, and Melanie Harrison finished 1^st in the discus in throwing 34.79metres. Jenny Szantai and Ruth O’Sullivan were solid competitors in the 3000metres.
